The Missing Foundation: Why the Lango Lorwama are Ready for a New Beginning

By Ojimi Mandela | Missionary

The Heart of the Matter

In the rugged beauty of Losite Payam, Eastern Equatoria, the Lango Lorwama people live a life of ancient rhythm. They are masters of the land, expert cattle herders and resilient subsistence farmers. Yet, despite their strength, a vital piece of the foundation is missing.

While neighboring tribes have seen the transformation of schools, clinics, and modern agriculture through the Gospel, the Lorwama community remains largely unreached. There is no Bible in their tongue, no church in their valleys, and no "House of God" to serve as a beacon of hope.

Building in the Right Order

There is a powerful lesson in the Bible from the prophet Haggai. After a time of great struggle, the people were busy building their own homes, but they wondered why their crops failed and their pockets remained empty.

God spoke through the prophet, saying:

"Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins? ... Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified." (Haggai 1:4, 8)

For the Lango Lorwama, "building the Temple" means putting God first. It means acknowledging that true civilization and progress, the kind that brings hospitals and education doesn't start with money. It starts with a spiritual foundation.

The Transformation of Neighbors

We look across the borders to tribes who once lived exactly like the Lorwama. What changed?

  1. The Gospel Arrived: They prioritized the Word of Jesus Christ.

  2. The Mind Was Renewed: With the Gospel came the first schools.

  3. The Body Was Cared For: With the church came the first medical outposts.

The prosperity of our neighbors isn't a matter of luck; it is a matter of order. When you build God's house first, He provides the wisdom and the peace to build your own.

A Call to Action for Losite Payam

The Lango Lorwama are a people of deep character. Imagine what that character could achieve if it were fueled by the Gospel!

We long for the day when:

  1. Every Lorwama person can read the Bible in their own language.

  2. A vibrant church sits at the heart of every village.

  3. Schools and clinics flourish as a natural fruit of a Christ-centered community.

Let Us Pray

Lord, we lift up the Lango Lorwama community. We pray that the ground in Losite Payam would be fertile for Your Word. We ask for laborers to go, for translators to begin their work, and for the hearts of the elders to open to Your truth. May they seek You first and watch as You transform their land. Amen.
